A blockbuster Saturday evening sees the Bombers looking to leapfrog their opponents into the top four against the Giants who just suffered their second defeat of the season.

 

Essendon almost fell to their second consecutive draw after surviving in the final minutes against the Eagles at Optus Stadium last time out. Zach Merrett was influential and continued his All-Australian form with 29 disposals and three goals.

 

Brad Scott’s outfit has already come out publicly and said that they are looking forward to this fixture as they look to make a mend on their humiliating 126-point defeat against GWS late last season. Can they show the ‘Essendon Edge’ this time around?

 

This midfield battle will be intriguing considering GWS are likely to lose Tom Green to injury but regain Stephen Coniglio, who was in great form before his absence. Darcy Parish seems to have returned to somewhat his best, whilst Sam Durham has been one of the Bombers best this season. 

 

The Giants were respectable in their defeat to cross-town rivals Sydney last time out in wet conditions. They also fell to a defeat in this match-up at Marvel Stadium last season by 13 points and I believe a similar tight cagey contest is on the cards on Saturday.
