Caulfield – Race 9 – CF Orr Stakes

Mr Brightside (1) is short enough at $1.85 but he’s hard to tip against after drawing perfectly in barrier four. Williams should be able to slot in forward of midfield in a race where the early tempo looks pretty genuine thanks to Buffalo River and Pride Of Jenni. He’s 3 from 3 over the Caulfield 1400m, including the G2 PB Lawrence Stakes when resuming last preparation.

Veight (9) has a little race fitness edge on most of his rivals and maps for a soft run with Lane riding from barrier two. His first-up win was solid given the speedy Recommendation got the swoopers off the bit a fair way from home.

Pericles (2) has trialled well for his return and has won 2 from 3 when fresh. He boasts a terrific record over this trip (5:3-1-0) and it took a bit performance from the Japanese horse Obamburumai to deny him the Golden Eagle (1500m) last start.

Doubt Pride Of Jenni (8) will get her own way in front here with noted frontrunner Buffalo River drawing on her inside. She still has to be respected though on what she achieved in the spring.

VERDICT: Mr Brightside (1) on top in the feature.

Randwick – Race 7 – Inglis Millennium

Odinson (1) turned in a grinding win on debut in the Inglis Nursery when making his run from a long way out. Had very little go his way after being posted four wide without cover but he still proved the superior two-year-old by getting home over the top of Beer Baron. Drawn much better in gate four and as they always do with the Ciaron Maher stable, he’ll keep improving.

Fully Lit (4) was an impressive winner on debut for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. The stable have won just about every two-year-old race on a Saturday in Sydney this season. Found the rails and just kept going at the top of the straight to win by three lengths. Barrier 17 makes it tricky but he’ll be there up on the speed and will just need a touch of luck.

Rue De Royale (2) was a super run when last seen, finishing second to Shangri La Express in the Golden Gift. Jumpouts down south have been good, the stable know what it takes to win this race having taken it out with Xtravagant Star two years ago, and Rue De Royale looks a good candidate here.

Rag Queen (12) is a rare two-year-old in training for David Payne and she looks to be a filly that will win plenty of races for the stable. Red hot pace on debut at Canterbury and she loved it with a strong win from the back after being held up.

VERDICT: Odinson (1) to win.
